The AoC were not weak and ineffective. I mean look at us now we're in no better a position. Instead of finding a way to remedy the situation they panicked and created a fledgling behemoth that we have today. It is partially our fault but still.

I attempted to view the new work on little round top, but unfortunately there was no parking all four times I drove over the hill. The little bit I could see was only of the parking area. And that area and the work done there was disappointing. The road has been choked down to a narrow cattle chute type arrangement, with stone curb added on both sides. I saw NO improvement in car parking, and all of the parking on the Right side of the road is now restricted to Bus parking. And the beaver pond at the foot of the hill is an absolute desecration of the battlefield. There was NO BEAVER POND HERE IN 1863.

10:27 when they showed an example footage of a rolling broadside I was hoping they used a scene from Master and Commander because they did a really good job of showing how ships fought during that time but I’m guessing they didn’t include that because that movie was from the Royal Navy’s perspective 😅

Glad you got Kyle’s name right this time! I really enjoy these videos. I discovered two of my great great grandfathers fought in McCook’s brigade at Cheatham Hill and battled Sam Watkins. They were in the 85th and 86th Illinois. I really enjoyed your video of that charge and sent it to my dad to watch it. We visited Perryville this summer where I discovered they were under Phil Sheridan, but not in the fight. On the same trip, we ended up getting my three oldest kids the junior Civil War historian badge at Stones River since we visited enough battlefields. Kennesaw and Chattanooga are high on our list to go next!

The Battle and Campaigns for Atlanta, great video ABT Kris and Dr Carson, So Grant sent Sherman with the Army of the Cumberland, George Thomas, Gen Schoefield with the Army of the Tennessee and Mcpherson of the Army of the Ohio, totaling over 110,000, + federal troops, The key objective the railroads and eventually Atlanta, Resaca, and New Hope Church, interesting against Gen Joseph Eggleston Johnston, the comeback Confederate Rebel General, Kennesaw Mountain is near the railroad? John Bell Hood under Johnston faced the Union forces at Cheatham Hill,, a 9,000-troop assault, the union made diversionary attacks? Hooker battles Hood, and the Confederates leave their lines? Is Sherman protecting his railroad supply line? this is intriguing, the higher the number the regt, the newer the recruit troops, unless veterans, Johnston, is observing this, his forces are gaining more assistance, Leonidas Polk, and Patrick Cleburne? so Johnston left his lines after June 27th Union assaults, to Peach Tree Creek? and Hood writes to POTCS Davis, Gen Johnston is a complete XYZ#_% etc, This is fascinating?

I am sure people go to various parts of the Gettysburg battlefield and say: "That reminds me of a view in Scotland" or "This countryside is so like the Border Country" or "Doesn't this aspect have a Wealden feel to it.?" I suppose that is part of the allure of the place. Yes we know the roads brought the soldiers of two great armies to this little town in south-central Pennsylvania and that the complex geology of the area was part of the reason for that communication network but it is its place in history; arguably the last great encounter battle ever fought, is without equal. Then there are the stories: plenty of them to be interesting but not so many as to be overwhelming and in some ways repetitive as so many would be half a century in the Great War and almost lost in the mass statistics of military and civilian deaths of the Second World War. I suppose I was rather overwhelmed myself by John Pullen's book fifty years ago when I first read and re-read the story of the 20th Maine but when I think about the Little Round Top segment now having seen so many of the splendid videos, it is Paddy O'Rourke leading the 140th NY who perhaps captures the imagination most. With great composers like Mozart and Schubert we wonder what they might have achieved had they lived. Stories of the generals often begin with their career at West Point and where they finished in their class. Little mention is made of Paddy O'Rourke finishing first in his class in 1861 and that leaves one wondering what he might have gone on to achieve had he survived that day. Yet his sacrifice reminds us we are all individuals and only human; a sacrifice echoed before, during and after 2 June 1863 all over the world and still, sadly, being replicated somewhere every day. And maybe that is true message of this beautiful place.

This is a great video! With the fights on Rocky Face Ridge being "diversionary" to McPherson's advance through Snake Creek Gap, they don't get much attention in the history books It must have been demoralizing for the rank and file Confederates to hold the Yankees at bay for nearly a week only to have to pull out, especially from positions they'd been preparing all winter. Pretty wild that Johnston had had all winter to prepare and didn't have anyone covering Snake Creek Gap.
